Ellis is an artist and illustrator from the Netherlands, always drawn to colors, shapes, and the little worlds you can build with them. For her, making is about playing: she loves printing, cutting, layering, and seeing what happens when things don’t go quite as planned. “That’s also the reason I started a riso studio named Studio Misprint,” she explains, “to create a space where you can make mistakes in your creative process!”

Risoprint has become Ellis’s favorite way of working. She loves the bright, fun colors and textures. When the layers shift or colors overlap in unexpected ways, they often create funky and surprising results. She makes zines, prints, and all kinds of experiments on paper. Much of her inspiration comes from vintage children’s books, patterns, and toys, which explains the graphic shapes and playful vibe in her work. “I like it when things are a bit too much—very joyful, and especially colorful.”

For Ellis, designing is not just a creative outlet; it also positively impacts her mental well-being. It allows her to experiment, learn, and constantly challenge herself. While she initially began as an illustrator, she is now transitioning toward more independent and playful design, and even some (riso!) animation work. “I think it’s important to keep reimagining my own creative process and to keep trying out new things, so I’m always creating and learning.”
